Good cleaning practices

CLEAN AS YOU GO! – Remember this mantra and it will save you lots of time and effort in keeping your food preparation area and surroundings clean.

Keep the floor clean from any objects and spills as someone might fall over them. Always clean up after yourself and put things away. If there are any mishaps ask what you can do to help and report it to the appropriate person.

Keep the storage areas properly organised by storing the food ingredients in neatly labelled containers. That means off the floor and with intact packaging or clean and sealed containers.

Check to see that all chemicals are labelled properly.

Replace and refill hand washing supplies like paper towels and liquid soap.

Single use paper towels are better than cloths. If you use cloths, make sure you wash them with hot water and detergent and sanitise them after every use.

Washing and sanitising are both essential steps in the cleaning process. Ensure that you always use food-safe detergents and sanitisers.

Prior to cleaning, ensure open bowls, pans and other utensils are not under work benches where water, cleaning chemicals or food scraps can fall in during the cleaning process.
